Flower-Powered Gala Closes Dallas Art Fair in Epic Fashion - April 11, 2017

What: The Eye Ball

Where: The Eye at The Joule

The 411: The 2017 Dallas Art Fair was sent off in epic style with the Headington Companies' fourth annual Eye Ball at The Joule. This year's festive gala was themed "aye, eye, aye!" and Tony Tasset's 30-foot Eye sculpture was front and center throughout the South of the border celebration. Surrounded by a sea of fresh marigolds and bold colors, guests were greeted with mezcal cocktails served in ice shot glasses. Once the shots were slung, attendees were invited to snap photos along a colorful floral wall that managed to hide a woman within the hustle and bustle of the backdrop.

Mexican street fare was passed throughout the venue including tacos, cabrito pies, elotes, churro bites, and horchata ice cream. Hibiscus margaritas and Mexican beers were flowing as was the tequila. And it was hard not to spot the 15-foot-tall Dia de los Muertos character weaving his way through the crowd. A piñata-style restroom installation (by Swoon the Studio), a swing set for 10 customized with multicolored streamers, flower-decorated skull-faced models, an altar-inspired DJ booth, and a performance by Austin-based Yayo Sanchez completed the evening. It was, undoubtedly, the see-and-be-seen party of spring.
