CONTOURS OF BEING: EXPLORATIONS OF HUMANITY THROUGH FIGURATION

Pencil on Paper Gallery is delighted to present a diverse perspective of humanity and the exploration of identity and human experiences through the lens of three women artists. Each artist uniquely explores elements of figuration and the surreal aspects of human existence. Elyse Hradecky, through the mundane of everyday moments coupled with the subtlety of the spaces that surround us, captures beauty through simplicity. Abi Salami explores themes surrounding mental health and well-being in bold and dynamic compositions that reimagine surrealism from the lens of the Black female experience. Finally, Jessica Vollrath delves into concepts of identity while capturing and utilizing fragments from childhood, womanhood, and the power of family within the existence of religion. Together, these three women artists offer a multifaceted exploration of their lived experiences, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of identity, connection, and womanhood.
