Jody Klotz Fine ArtAbilene

Jody Klotz has been an international art dealer for more than 45 years in New York, Paris and Texas dealing in 19th and 20th century European and American art. Her gallery, located in Abilene, Texas, has focused on European and American Post War and Color Field painting in recent years, with an emphasis on women artists and a program of vibrant and groundbreaking exhibitions.  The gallery exhibits in prestigious art fairs such as Art Miami and The Dallas Art Fair. In the fall of 2021, the gallery featured an exhibition entitled Explosions of Color | Dimensions of Sound – The Art of Lynne Mapp Drexler, where Jody championed this soon to be megastar artist.  Following the success of this exhibition and the astronomical rise in recognition of Drexler’s work, in 2023 Jody presented an exhibition entitled Re-emergence - Female Abex and Color Field Artists - Lynne Drexler, Buffie Johnson, Alice Baber and Contemporaries, contextualizing lesser known artists amongst other well-known figures like Elaine de Kooning and Grace Hartigan.

Alice Baber became an artist of deep importance to Jody when she discovered her in 2022 and featured her in the above-mentioned group exhibition in 2023, with her eye toward putting on a major exhibition. In 2024, after acquiring 28 works by the artist, she mounted the solo exhibition Alice Baber Colors of the Rainbow in her gallery in Texas. She then brought the exhibition to New York City, so that Alice Baber's important paintings would receive more exposure and attention, collaborating with Leslie Feely Fine Art, NY.   The exhibition was accompanied by a substantial catalog with an important essay by Gail Levin.  Jody has worked tirelessly to champion the work and legacy of this underrecognized artist, and the gallery has just returned from a monumental exhibition of the artist’s work in collaboration with PhillipsX in New York City entitled Alice Baber: Sacred Space. Featuring nearly 30 works spanning 1959 to 1981, the exhibition offered the most comprehensive market-facing presentation of Baber’s artistic evolution to date, coinciding with the publication of Gail Levin’s groundbreaking new biography, Alice Baber: An Artist’s Triumph Over Tragedy.

The gallery has grown in the scope, scale, and importance of its exhibitions as Jody's instinct and foresight about undervalued artists has been met with great success. The gallery boasts an impressive inventory of Impressionist, Modern and Post War art, and Jody continues to grow a vibrant program of exhibitions and art fairs that caters to regional and international clients, dealers, interior designers as well as local collectors.
