James Cohan is a contemporary art gallery in New York. In the Fall of 2015, the gallery expanded to include an additional exhibition space on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The gallery maintains a diverse program with one or two annual thematic group exhibitions in addition to solo projects by gallery artists. James Cohan represents a mix of established and emerging artists including the Estate of Robert Smithson, Bill Viola, Fred Tomaselli, Beatriz Milhazes, Yinka Shonibare MBE, , Omer Fast, Scott Olson, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Helene Appel, Kathy Butterly, Yun-Fei Ji, Byron Kim, Grace Weaver, Xu Zhen®, Tabaimo, Katie Paterson, Simon Evans™, Spencer Finch, Michelle Grabner, the Estate of Lee Mullican, and The Propeller Group. Three of the gallery artist's have represented their respective countries at the Venice Biennale -- Viola, in 1995, for the United States; Tabaimo, in 2011, for Japan; and Just, for Denmark, in 2013. Three years after opening his eponymous gallery on 57th Street, James Cohan moved to his present location at 533 West 26th Street in 2002. From July 2008 through December 2015, James Cohan operated a gallery in Shanghai, China dedicated to presenting American and European contemporary art as well as developing a program of Chinese artists.
