DREAMSONG

DREAMSONGMinneapolis

Founded in June 2021 by Rebecca Heidenberg and Gregory Smith, Dreamsong is situated on a small compound in Northeast Minneapolis and is comprised of a gallery, a standalone Cinema, and a cottage used as an artist’s residency. Dreamsong’s program is focused on intergenerational emerging and mid-career artists with an emphasis on female-identified and under-recognized artists.

Dreamsong’s inaugural exhibition, A Glitter of Seas, explored diverse experiences related to motherhood through contemporary artists living in Minnesota alongside artists with significant national and international prominence, including Nan Goldin, Julie Buffalohead, Nicole Havekost, Camille Henrot and Frida Orupabo among others. Since then, the gallery has continued to contextualize artworks within in broader conversations through organizing group exhibitions, while also presenting solo exhibitions for our growing roster of gallery artists.

Aside from a rigorous exhibitions schedule, and participation in fairs such as Frieze LA, the Armory Show, and Expo Chicago, Dreamsong is also committed to public engagement and programming. In 2022, the gallery spearheaded the inaugural Twin Cities Art Week with over 20 venues including the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Year-round programming in our Cinema includes experimental music, performance art, artist talks, readings and screenings, and has featured artists such as Paul Chan, Mika Rottenberg, Moyra Davey, Ja’Tovia Gary, and Illana Harris-Babou, among many others.
